What are neurotoxins?

Facial wrinkles and creases tend to form as a result of the repetitive contractions of muscles when we smile, frown, squint, or make other habitual expressions. Products like Botox and Dysport are formulated from botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles just under the skin.

Neurotoxins are administered in a series of injections placed strategically to smooth out existing wrinkles. Botox was the first product of this type and continues to provide beautiful, lasting results from a straight forward, in-office procedure. In addition to Botox injections, we also offer Dysport, a formulation that works better on large areas like the forehead. If you are new to neurotoxins Lenexa patients can consult with our knowledgeable aesthetic specialists who can help you navigate your options and select the best treatment for your skin concerns.

Your Neurotoxin Injection Procedure

After creating a treatment plan with the help of your aesthetic specialist, you will recline in one of our comfortable chairs for the injection procedure. If desired, a topical anesthetic may be applied to your skin for your comfort. Your Lenexa neurotoxins provider will then make a series of injections into the targeted area using a narrow needle. The length of your appointment will depend on the number of areas to be treated, but the process typically takes half an hour or less.

Neurotoxin Results

You will begin to see the skin in the treatment areas smooth out after three or four days, but it may take up to two weeks for your full results to be visible. Patients tend to be highly satisfied with the reduction in lines and deep creases achieved with Botox or Dysport. Results typically last between three and four months, after which you can schedule a follow-up treatment to maintain your smooth, youthful-looking complexion.

A Fresh Start

Neurotoxin Treatment Recovery and Aftercare

There is no special aftercare required following injections with Botox or Dysport. You may have slight soreness or swelling around the injection sites, but this should dissipate within a day or two. Most people return to their regular routine right away and begin to see changes in their skin within three to four days. Avoid pressing on or rubbing the treated area for about 24 hours to allow the injectables time to settle in and get to work.

Some people experience swelling, soreness, or bruising at the treatment site. Rarer side effects include eye irritation, eyelid drooping, flu-like symptoms, or an upset stomach. Contact a doctor immediately if you have allergic reaction symptoms, including shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, or slurred speech.

The HydraFacial is great for teens dealing with acne, as well as patients fighting signs of aging and everyone in between.
